Team made 23 starts among four drivers last season
with a top result of seventh place with Joe D'Agostino.
Newman Wachs Racing signed Jonathan Summerton
of Kissimmee, Florida, to the #36 car in the Cooper
Tires presents the Atlantic Championship powered by
Mazda 2008 Season. Summerton
made history when he took first place
in the feature race at Shanghai’s International
Circuit in China. Representing A1 Team USA, it was
Jonathan’s first and his team’s first ever
win.

In 2008 the #34 car will be driven by Simona De Silvestro,
one of Switzerland’s top young racers and the
newly enlisted driver to the team. She made history
by becoming the first woman to ever earn a podium result
at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 2006 at the US
Grand Prix. This is her second season with the Atlantic

Outlook
After entering Atlantic competition as a rookie team
in 2006, the Newman Wachs Racing team will look for
improved results and a championship run in ’07.
With a wealth of racing and technical experience at
its disposal the team will rely on ultra-talented American
rookie driver J. R. Hildebrand this season. Hildebrand
was dominant in capturing the FF2000 title last year
and joined the team for the final race of the season
at Road America. Hildebrand and the team developed
good chemistry and solid results during pre-season
testing, leading to high hopes for ’07. The squad
also plans to field a second car for another skilled
young racer this season.
Team Bio
Academy-Award winning actor Paul Newman met Eddie Wachs
when both men were racing in the Can-Am series in
the early 80s. The two remained close friends over
the years and talked about someday forming their
own team. When the new direction of the Champ Car
Atlantic Championship was announced in the summer
of 2005, both Newman and Wachs decided the time was
right and Atlantic was the place. Newman, the co-owner
of the seven-time Champ Car championship-winning
Newman/Haas Racing team, joined forces with Wachs,
a former Trans-Am, Super Vee and SCCA racer, to develop
and mold young drivers into champions. In addition
to its owners, the team brings a wealth of motorsports
experience to the Atlantic grid. Standout engineer
Don Halliday and former Atlantic engineer and team
owner Ove Olsson will help manage the team, and the
veteran crew will try to make sure the team is running
up front throughout the season.
